Converting Your Website into a Money-Making Machine

(0 votes)

Most individuals and companies make websites just for fun or just to fit in some class of "our website". Little do they know that websites can be used for income generation. The amount of traffic going in and out of a website can be monetized and it is very unfortunate not to know of this fact.

Knowledge is power

For most of us, internet is a pool of information and it can be very overwhelming pinpointing out the success needle in that great haystack. All it takes is some awareness that you can really make money followed by a mastery of how to do it. While its ethically correct to develop an online identity before you even start thinking of making money online, there can other ways of bypassing an identity, nevertheless. I can as well share with you some techniques to make that dream a reality and get you started. These techniques are based on driving traffic to your online identity such as website, blog, etc:

1) Search Engine Optimization

A website is like a complement of your real-world business premise. If you have the best premise and people do not know where it is, the whole idea of having a premise itself becomes futile. You might be having one of the best websites on the planet with the least count of visits. People mainly access website content by using search engines and mainly navigate to the first top three pages per keyword search before trying another search. Search Engine Optimization, SEO, is a technique that helps your website to improve in rankings in the search engines thus enabling people to find you. Results gotten from efforts of SEO are called natural or organic results.

Proper utilization of SEO will lead to the bottomline requirement i.e people visiting your website so that monetizing website goals can be achieved.

2) Pay-Per-Click advertising

Pay-Per-Click, abbreviated as PPC is the internal complement of SEO. Where both entail better ranking and placement on search results pages, SEO entails better ranking and placement of your website pages in search engine results pages (SERPs) while PPC entails better ranking and placement of advertisements in the search results pages or in other content pages called content networks. Advertisements, linking to special Landing pages or to specific areas of your website compete with others based on various parameters such as bid price, quality score, scheduling, geographic settings and many other variables. Results gotten from efforts of PPC are called Paid search results.

3) Display Advertising

Display advertising involves placement of ads in directly in some websites or content networks as opposed to search advertising which displays ads insearch results pages. Some sample websites and content networks include; Facebook; Yahoo; Microsoft Advertising; Advertising.com; Value Click Media; Retargeting solutions e.g Ad Roll, Chango, Criteo, Fetchback, Magnetic, Retargeter, Simpli.fi; as well as Google Display Network. Ads may take the format of images, videos, rich media or even text.

4) Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a form of marketing where affiliates/publishers drive traffic to merchants/sellers websites and get remunerated if the visitors perform a certain action. The remuneration arrangements mainly include Pay Per Sale, Pay Per Lead, Pay Per Call and Pay Per Click. Actions performed by visitors to warrant remuneration vary from merchant to merchant and mostly include sale, subscription, registration, visit, etc. Websites that want to perform affiliates generally signup with the merchants directly or through affiliate networks where they are bound by practice rules set up in what is called an affiliate program. Some affiliate networks to sign up with are Commission Junction, Amazon Associates Central, LinkShare, Peerfly, Ebay Affiliate, Amped Media, Max Bounty, ClickBank and AffiliateShop.

5) Donation Button Placement

Donation button is a call to action for people to donate to a cause. It is used by websites of non-profits and it is an indispensable tool to use for online fundraising activities. The button leads to a secure page where donors can donate and it performs well based on various presentation ideas.

What next?

Sounds overwhelming? Maybe yes, maybe not. With some knowledge and effort and ofcourse time, you can set the ball rolling. Whether your website is a brand site, wiki, blog or otherwise, it dwelves down to traffic. You have only three choices to make: 1) Do it yourself, 2) Hire someone to do it, and/or 3) Leave it altogether. The latter is same as not having a website at all. The first is the best but only depends on your ability and time to go up the curve. If you wish to take the second route, I advise you to click here.
